Toyota Hilux N70 1KD Spartan Turbo TUNE RESULTS!

It's no doubt that the Spartan Turbos have been taking the market by storm, producing extremely impressive results on the Ford Rangers, Nissan Patrols and MORE. Their pricing compared to stats is quite impressive to compare against other brands trying to build high horsepower Hilux and Prado turbos, plus they are built in Melbourne... Whats not to love! 

We recently decided to strap one on our Toyota Hilux and throw it on our dyno to push it to the limits.

Before the Dyno

First of all, lets talk about how it performs in standard form. The factory turbo on the Toyota Hilux make a staggering 104kw (139hp) and 320nm of torque through the auto transmission, absolute powerhouse right...

Before bolting on the new turbo, we decided to give the Hilux a birthday:
- Engine Oil
- Oil Filter
- Fuel Filter
- Air Filter
- Inlet Manifold Clean
- Cleaned Air Mass Meter
- AG Diesel +30 Injectors
- DEA 3 Inch Turbo Back Exhaust
- Demon Pro Parts Front Mount Intercooler With Intake Pipe.
- Exhaust Manifold Gaskets
- Spartan STS46-30110

Installation was easy, Spartan includes all the gaskets, washers and fittings to install it, the housings are cased from direct copies of the OEM housing, everything lined up like an OEM turbo. We personally didn't want to put the intake back on with just how good the front housing looks, but the included billet intake elbow certainly isin't an eyesore.

The Results

As soon as bolted it to the dyno we knew this car has woken up, the car feeling and sounding much happier. Over a few hours we kept increasing the boost, making sure to keep to a safe 18:1 Air Fuel Ratio, making sure to produce as little soot and smoke as possible. Although Spartan told us 30psi will be enough, we could resist finishing the session on 32psi!

201KW (270HP) Was the final result, almost DOUBLE the factory power, but whats even crazier, is we almost TRIPLED the torque, making a whopping 836nm of torque!

Boost and AFR (Air Fuel Ratio)

 

We took to the road, passing the keys to one of the staff members who lives the furthest from work to conduct the most important test of all... fuel economy... We consistently saw around 700-800km on a full tank. But enough of that, it spools QUICK, makes GREAT POWER, tackling obstacles off road became instantly easier. Overall the car feels much happier than it did before.
