CCT Turbo Standard, Stage 1 or Stage 2? Which one is best for you?

CCT Turbo Standard, Stage 1 or Stage 2? Which one is best for you?

Do you want a standard replacement, Stage 1 High Flow, Stage 2 High Flow, or something even bigger? In this blog, we explore the full range of High Flow turbochargers from the brands we sell: CCT, Demon Pro Parts, and Spartan. We’ll also explain the benefits of each and help you determine which option best suits your needs.

Standard Replacement Turbochargers

At Demon Pro Parts, we sell a huge range of standard replacement turbochargers to suit most popular makes and models. Repair bills can be costly, especially when dealing with a major engine component like a turbo. Aftermarket turbos can be a godsend when trying to fix your car on a budget. They are cost-effective, often carry the same warranty as factory turbos, and are a direct factory fit.

Pros:

  • Factory fit

  • Cheaper than factory options like Garrett, BorgWarner, IHI, and Mitsubishi

  • Supplied with gaskets

  • Performs just as well as a standard factory turbo

Cons:

  • Cannot be tuned (warranty voided)

  • No performance gains

  • Materials can vary

A standard replacement turbo suits someone looking for a direct replacement for a factory turbo that has failed, is leaking, or is being replaced due to high kilometres. It’s ideal for those prioritising low cost over performance gains.

Stage 1 Turbochargers

Stage 1 turbos are your first step towards getting a bit more performance out of your daily driver or weekend car. These turbos are quicker-spooling, robust, factory replacement turbochargers that are usually a direct bolt-on, while keeping additional modifications to a minimum. This ensures reliability and cost-effectiveness.

The Stage 1 turbos are built by disassembling a standard replacement turbo, thoroughly cleaning out the internals, and preparing them for assembly. Once the core is complete, our Melbourne team fits a billet compressor wheel, which is lighter, stronger, taller, and more efficient than the factory wheel. For cars over five years old, this upgrade also delivers a significant technological advancement in compressor wheel design. The cores are balanced, the factory housings reassembled in the correct orientation, and the actuators flow-tested. The turbos are then ready to be bolted onto the vehicle.

Pros:

  • Factory fit

  • Quicker spool

  • Lightweight compressor wheel reduces strain on turbo internals

  • Better fuel economy

Cons:

  • Cannot be tuned (warranty voided)

  • Gains depend on the current vehicle condition and maintenance (e.g. carbon build-up in the manifold, exhaust blockages)

Stage 1 turbos are perfect for those seeking an affordable way to make their car feel a little more peppy while retaining its factory function and form, and maintaining a stock, reliable tune.

Stage 2 Turbochargers

For those chasing more power, the upgraded Stage 2 turbo is for you! Not only will you see noticeable gains on a relatively stock car, but with additional mods like a high-flowing exhaust, intake, fuel system, and intercooler, you’ll achieve huge performance gains across the board.

Stage 2 turbos are similar to Stage 1 but feature a machined-out front housing to accept a larger billet compressor wheel. This allows for a super-responsive turbo that can intake more air and handle more boost, all while retaining the stock turbine wheel.

Pros:

  • Factory fit

  • Larger compressor wheel

  • Handles increased boost

  • Can be tuned

  • Can be run on a stock car without tuning

Cons:

  • Same internal bearing set as factory

  • Major benefits only seen after tuning

Stage 2 turbos are great for those wanting a high-flow turbo capable of handling more boost without breaking the bank. If you plan on tuning your car to maximise the performance of a Stage 2 turbo, speak to your tuner about complementary modifications, or call our staff on (03) 8766 8888.

Demon Pro Turbochargers

After years of experience, we at Demon Pro have developed our own range of high-flow turbos. These are designed to provide a super-responsive setup while addressing known issues to ensure not only cost-effective performance but also exceptional reliability.

Pros:

  • Upgraded internals with a full 360-degree thrust washer (necessary for handling more boost than Stage 2 turbos)

  • Lightweight billet compressor wheels

  • Upgraded rear turbine wheels to combat common diesel high EGT and back-pressure issues in select models

  • Factory fit

  • Capable of 24 PSI

  • More reliable than factory options

Cons:

  • Can create excess strain on engine components if other mods are not fitted

  • Requires tuning for major benefits

If you’re after incredible spool and the capability for more boost, while retaining or exceeding factory reliability, Demon Pro turbos offer the perfect all-round solution.
